Observation alone is enough to trigger SCP-071’s effect, even through mirrors or live surveillance. Only delayed footage prevents its transformation. When unobserved, SCP-071 remains frozen in its last assumed form, waiting for the next viewer.

Contact with SCP-071 results in severe and lasting physiological harm, including muscular degeneration and cognitive decline. Even indirect exposure through recordings has been shown to produce the same effects. SCP-071 does not communicate, does not explain itself, and does not pursue — it simply responds to being seen.
